Born in a bar
The concept of this podcast was born in a bar. Talking with friends and mentors that lamented the lack of a platform where we, geochemists, can talk about the real issues.
I hope you’re happy Peter, this is dedicated to you.
Our Process
Introduction
We start with the person. Guests share how they found geochemistry, what shaped their career and what they wish they knew earlier.
Tea Time
Candid stories, behind-the-scenes moments and real talk from their journey in geochemistry.
Geochem
We dig into a topic chosen by the guest, grounded by a paper or a few, and focused on how geochemistry works in practice.
Meet The Host
Sam Scher
Sam started her career in exploration before moving into mining technology. More recently she founded LKI Consulting, focused on applied geochemistry and hyperspectral data integration for the mining and mineral exploration industries.

What Our Listeners Say About Us
Your podcast has been a really invaluable life line right now honestly. So thank you for all your hard work and candid down to earth nature on the podcast.
When I found your podcast it was exactly what I needed to get my head back into geology but also remind myself that we all have these bumps in the road and no one’s career starts out the way they think. So your messaging around that plus that geochemists are rare (hehe so we’re special) prevents me from giving up.
Madelyn
I recently watched your interview with Jessica Keast from GeoHUG, and I felt compelled to reach out. Your work is truly inspiring and motivates me greatly. Like you, I understand how challenging it can be to navigate the mining industry as a young woman, but seeing empowered women like you makes all the difference.
I wanted to take this moment to express my gratitude and wish you continued success. Your contributions are making a real impact and adding immense value to our community.
Keep shining!
Penelope
I truly appreciate all the work you’re doing to make science accessible and relatable, especially in fields like geochemistry and mining that can be so niche. Your content has already made a difference for me, and I’m sure it’s doing the same for many others.
Olivia
I love your podcast and appreciate the public free materials you are choosing to share. Thank-you!
My favourite time to listen to them are while moving outside and the way you’ve structured things, it’s always interesting, full of career tips and easy to visualize some of the trickier concepts.
Thanks for the work you do!
Claire
Hi Sam, First I would like to say that I love your podcast. As an undergraduate geologist I have listened to every geology podcast I can find, and I feel like yours is by far the most well rounded and educational for more in-depth geologic concepts. I would love to hear some episodes about the crossover between geochemistry and biology. Both geochemistry and hydrology are areas I would love to find a job in.
Hannah
Hello! I am an environmental geochemist and hydrogeologist at an environmental consultancy and just discovered your amazing podcast. Loving the content and supporting information for each episode on your website, especially the associated reading material. Our field dramatically needs more media like this. Just wanted to reach out and say thank you! You’re doing great work
Adam
I’m really enjoying listening to the GeOCHemISTea podcasts, Sam. Great way to increase the visibility of applied geochem and maybe encourage graduating students to consider a geochem related career.
Ray
If you’re into geochemistry you need to add GeOCHemISTea to your playlist. Whether your interests lie in academia, industry or just general geochemistry, GeOCHemISTea has something for everyone. The great thing about GeOCHemISTea is that you discover the “real” people behind the article/paper/LinkedIn post that you’ve read. Sam is not afraid to ask the hard questions while ensuring that the content is accessible to all levels of experience.
